The Walking Man - (0:43)

The Walking Man project was the project in which I had to use dark and white colors and a Noir theme. I had to make a video which was like some old movies from the beginning of the 20th century. The story of this project was about a man who was walking to the office to work, and while he was working, he realized that he must go home since he forgot about his wife, and so the man leaves the office and goes back home. I had to look over the things about the Noir genre and know the type of music there is in these kinds of videos. I realized that the dark and white colors can always affect the mood of the scene, such as representing depression or frustration.
 

For this project, I needed 8 shots, but ultimately I ended up with 5 shots. I realized that I have to look at my projects’ goals carefully before realizing them. I had to find a perfect place and location for filming, think of better filming techniques and time for filming. I had a lot of good ideas for this project, but most of them weren’t fitting the theme of the project. For example, I wanted to make a “found footage” like video but my teacher explained to me that it wasn’t the right choice. So I had to think of a new idea, and I found a simple one. To film a video of a man working in an office, and since the school I was studying in looked like an office hall, I thought to film the video there. There was the theme of sadness and a bit of anger. Even if it wasn’t shown in the main character’s facial expressions, he was feeling a bit angry and upset because of what happened between him and his wife. 
 

In the technical part, I used panning shots when the scene was focusing on the main character’s legs and shoes or when the main character was working on his project in the room alone, the camera was slowly moving to his face. His face looked vulnerable and upset and it was made to show the audience how much he is that he can’t see his wife. There was a high angle which showed the main character’s sadness and frustration. Even in the beginning of the video, it started with the main character’s back so we wouldn’t see his sadness.
 

In conclusion, I want to say that I liked the theme of the project itself because the dark and white theme is the most popular and favorite part for most people. I learnt that I have to be careful writing wise because I can skip some important details. For example, I forgot to add a female character in the movie and in most Noire movies, there were women who had many different roles and next time, I must be careful and more focused on what I’m reading and working on. I loved to add the soundtrack in the movie because it sounded more like in the 1930s, which the project was inspired from. The facial expressions were another good part in the project because I could express my acting skills which helped me for this project. What I think I need to improve next time is to have better casting so the video wouldn’t feel like the main character is lonely and make it more like a real office like scene since the video was set in an office.
