Monster - (0:43)

The assignment was to make a horror/thriller type video. I was getting many ideas of what the video should look like, and I got inspiration from different movies. My inspiration for the idea came from a horror movie called “Lights Out” from 2016. In this movie there was a story about some creepy creature who was always appearing in the room only when it’s dark, and it was killing some people. I liked the idea so much that I thought of making a short version of it. 
 

To make the video a little creepier I had to add some sound effects. I was inspired by the game called “Resident Evil 7” which had a lot of good and creepy sounds. Of course in most suspense scenes (especially if it’s a horror movie), there can be some jumpscare sound, and so I wanted to use some jumpscare sound effects. At first I wanted to use this sound from “Five Nights At Freddy's” game, but I thought this sound would be too familiar, so I thought about the jumpscare sound that is not super popular, and I got the inspiration from the game I have played, called “Poppy Playtime”. I thought about using it in my video. 
 

I was using light in the video for the suspense which I was trying to make most of the audience feel. For example, when I was turning the lights off, the monster appeared and it started to walk slowly and later a bit faster. This would let the audience know where the monster is and if it’s there. Another thing the lighting is good for is in the scene when the monster appears in the dark. When the audience sees it for the first time, they have no idea who or what that is since they can see only a shape in the dark, it would make it more mysterious. 
 

There was also a long shot. I used it to make a shot where it was showing the school hall and me cleaning the lockers to show that I’m alone and nobody can help me.

Throughout this project, I had a lot of challenges and I’ve learnt from most mistakes that I won’t repeat again. For example, I will try to avoid some unintended extras in scenes. Next time, I will make sure that nobody will be in the filming area when it’s time for recording a specific scene and to make sure that the time for filming is perfect (for example to film at night or day). Another thing I need to improve next time is watching the lighting. In the ending scene when the main character was getting attacked by a monster, there was a hallway with a turned on light, and that made the scene less scary. And speaking of scary, another thing I need to do next time is to make sure the video is scarier which would make the audience thrilled. To make the video a bit scarier or thrilling, I need to add very thrilling or scary sounds or music which  would make the audience be more afraid.
